How to Wake up Happy and Energized in 5 Easy Steps
Why does no one talk about how to wake up?
Most people wake up to the blaring alarm of their iPhone only to snooze for an hour and still wake up tired.
Waking up abruptly from deep sleep is incredibly disturbing, and it instantly sets the mood for a shitty morning and a throbbing headache.
I got sick and tired of waking up sick and tired so I've compiled 5 ways to wake up feeling happy, recharged, and ready to make the most of your day. Whether you've got a full 8 hours, or not, waking up properly helps to pacify the process of waking up in the first place.
Let's get started!
1. Make your bedroom the perfect place to wake up

I can't stress the importance of a good night's sleep, so get your bedroom clean, organized, and ready for some drool-worthy sleep.
The environment you fall asleep in dictates how you'll feel when you awake. So take these pointers from me:
Make sure your clothes, makeup, shoes, and everything else are put back and organized. Waking up to a clean, ready space makes all the difference.
Diffuse Lavender essential oils into the air. Lavender is known to create a soothing and relaxing ambiance.
Make sure to wash your sheets regularly, there's nothing like falling asleep in some cozy clean sheets.
Minimize lights that come into your room through light-blocking curtains.
The purpose of all this is to make sure that mentally, you feel ready and calm in the space that you're falling asleep and waking up in. Spend some time making your bedroom a sanctuary for rest.
2. Use a light alarm - with soothing nature sounds

Have you ever heard of light therapy? It's a great way to get your mood up during those cold grey winter months. I live in the Pacific North West, so this is critical for me.
Waking up gradually to sunlight and the sounds of nature doesn't have to be a pipe dream. You can use a light alarm that simulates the sunlight, and gradually grows brighter as your wake up time approaches.
When 7 AM comes around, you'll be greeted by the sounds of the wind blowing, and birds singing in the distance. You can grab one on Amazon for approximately CAD$50.
This lamp makes waking up a pleasant and enlightening experience, and you can leave your phone on silent somewhere far away.
3. Wake up at the same time every day
We're creatures of habit. Making a habit of waking up at 6 AM every day instantly ensures that we can wake up at this time by ourselves.
We have a circadian rhythm that naturally regulates our sleep/wake cycle, so why not use it to your advantage?
Whether you got tons of sleep or very little, having this rhythm in sync with your schedule ensures that you'll be able to wake up on time, all the time.
So, respect and understand your body, and use your natural systems to wake up naturally.
Choose a time that works for you, and commit to it, with no exceptions.
4. Create a (fun) morning ritual

Having something to look forward to before you sleep helps you wake up and be excited about the day ahead.
Have you ever had trouble waking up before a fun day with friends, or the day you fly to Mexico for vacation? You can have that level of excitement every morning.
Create a morning ritual that brings you joy and boosts your physical and mental health.
Here are a couple of ideas:
Spend 30 minutes in a new coffee shop reading a book.
Try a new delicious breakfast recipe
Go to a new workout class
Do a new yoga session
Go for a long walk, or run (throw in a new podcast or playlist)
Take a candlelit shower (just try it!)
Have a slow morning with coffee and your favorite newsletters
Try something you've never done before!
There's no harm in altering your morning ritual to keep it fresh and exciting. These actions forge new neural pathways in your brain and help you think outside of the box.
5. Prepare the night before
We usually have trouble waking up for a couple of reasons. The first being we didn't get enough sleep.
The other is that we're not too enthused to go through the process of prepping for the day, and going to work.
Most people don't realize that we have limited energy for decision-making and willpower. If you have to make a lot of decisions in the morning in terms of what to wear, and what to eat, you're losing valuable time and energy.
Prepare the night before by making your lunch, choosing your outfit, cleaning your home, and making everything ready to go for the next day. It can be that simple.
Try it out for yourself and look at the time and effort you save in the morning, let alone your ease of mind in waking up.
Now, it’s up to you.
There you have it, folks! if you do these five things, I promise you will wake up feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. try it out for yourself and let me know what you think!
